Tonight is the last game night in Santa Cruz. The next game night will be held at the IHOP at 5403 Stevens Creek Blvd in Santa Clara.

Game night is still on!
Yes, we're on for tonight but we're moving it to Sarah's (danaewinters) house.

We're still on this Wednesday night.
For this coming Wednesday, 2/26, Phil (testing4l) and Fizz (relsqui) will be in Boston getting their xkcd on. Actually, they're already there.

I just want y'all to know that game night is not being cancelled. We're still on!

Phil and Fizz have left most all the games (minus Settlers of Catan, thank God, and the Escher ball) with me so we'll have everything available. Sarah, of course it's appreciated if you bring Wise or Otherwise ;).

The only thing I'm worried about is Carl. I don't know how to get a hold of him so if anyone can figure out a way to contact him to let him know that game night is on, let me know.

Also, if we're going to start at 8pm, I would really appreciate if someone else can be there at that exact time besides me. I don't want to end up waiting alone for an hour. (Sorry Sarah, for that one night you had to go through that.) Thanks!

I think it's fair to assume that the starting time for game night is going to be 8:30, rather than 8:00, until further notice; I'm making corrections appropriately as I think of places to put them.

Edit: In fact, I updated several other things on the profile too.

Thought you guys should see this one, since I know at least ONE of you who's a big DDR fan.  See you tonight!

PS, relsqui & testing4l, how much do I owe you for that food the other week?

There's only four left! Quick, somebody tell Athena! And then ask her if I can borrow it...PLEASE!!

(filmed in Santa Cruz, AND it has Bernadette Peters in it? Dear God.)

Lookin' like no game night tonight.
Sarah's out, April is I believe out because of birthday, and Phil and I are both under the weather and probably shouldn't go. I think that's enough to cancel it for tonight (although of course we won't stop anyone else from showing up and gaming).

Hey guys...just wanted to let you know that I won't be at game night this Wednesday, but definitely will be the week after. I stayed up insanely late last night, and am planning on staying up for the Girlyman concert on Thursday, so between those two late worknights, I gotta sleep sometimes (insert shoutings of "Wuss!" here). Hopefully, I'll see you soon though.

Posting instead of commenting to make sure everyone sees it--rather than miss another game night, what about bumping it to this weekend? I miss you guys and don't want to wait a whole nother week to hang out. 8)

We could even do it on Tuesday if that's not too short notice. What say you?
6:02 pm
Incidentally, relsqui and I have an unmissable event this week as well. Her father is performing an operatic piece.

It's an annoyance to miss two game nights in a row. Still, I'm sure that game night manages nicely on its own. With some measure of willingness, it can go on again this week without us (but with the game bag).

Something else occurred to me. It's been a very long time since Game Night became a Wednesday night thing instead of a Tuesday night thing. That was to follow Nickole's schedule which is -- sadly -- long since irrelevant. So, I'm just tossing this out there -- would another night be more convenient for anyone?

Well, we agreed to give Square games in order for game night to continue next week without us . . . and then completely forgot to actually do so.

Square, let us make plans to remedy that. 8) Unless someone else is going to be in the area anyway.

Wanted to let you guys know that testing4l and I will NOT be here next week, March 7, on account of being out of the country. Naturally, this doesn't prevent you lot from going, and we can leave our games in the keeping of someone who'll be there next week. Please disseminate. :)

Hey hey hey! Tomorrow evening's game night coincides with Philday! You know what this means!

Among the things suggested:
A Philday themed version of Chrononauts
Another Philday themed version of Nanofictionary
A Philday themed version of Once Upon a Time
Eye of Argon reading.

Post ideas! Celebrate a *REAL* saint, not that fictional one! ; )

Hey guys...just wanted to let you know that my friend Greg is going to be there tomorrow night, and while I'm going to try to be there exactly at 8, I might be a few minutes late.  SO, if you see a rather buff looking guy with short curly brown hair come in and look a little lost at the front desk...that's probably him.  Anyway, see you then!

It just occurred to me that no one's been posting here in a while.

Game night is still going, but has transitioned to the Denny's on Ocean Street. The staff is actually pretty decent and seating is the best of the 24-hour options.

Come by and play with the Escher Ball!

The Verdict.
Email exchange with danaewinters reposted with permission:

So, how did Denny's work out for gaming? Do you think you'll be going there next week?

That's the plan unless someone thinks of something better. It actually went really well--better than we wanted it to, honestly. First of all, there was tons of table space (it would have been trivial to get a big group in there). The food was good, the servers seemed cool, and nobody seemed to mind us hanging out for a while. (There were a couple of big tables free all the time, so we weren't hurting them for space.)

We'll see how they feel about it being a regular thing, and what happens when and if we get bigger and noisier, but for the moment it's acceptable.

P.S. Sorry it took so long for me to post this--put it in my personal journal by mistake and only just noticed.

Sorry to post this so late, but Game Night will be at Denny's tonight. That's 1515 Ocean--map and directions here.

We'll see how it goes, but meanwhile, I'm still soliciting suggestions for good locations in the Santa Cruz area. Here are some criteria to think about:
  • It needs to be available late. Not, strictly speaking, 24-hour, but that tends to be the case for acceptable places.
  • We need to be able to seat at least six people facing each other, and as many as a dozen together. (There's pretty much nowhere we could sit a dozen facing each other, but it would be a plus.) This rules out anywhere that only has booths!
  • It doesn't have to be a restaurant! If you know of a conference room or other meeting hall that's available, that would be awesome. We would prefer somewhere we can either buy food or bring our own, though.

For those who may have missed it in my journal, there was a sign posted at Tiny's tonight saying that it would be closed until further notice. I find it equally likely that everything will be back to normal by tomorrow and that it won't be back to normal by Wednesday; I'll update when I know more. Until we do know more, though, we have to assume there will be no Game Night this week.
